What Is Lymphatic K Taping?

Lymphatic taping is a gentle technique used to help support the body's natural lymphatic system and encourage the movement of excess fluid. Using a lightweight kinesiology tape, specially designed fan shaped strips are applied over areas of swelling or congestion.

Unlike traditional athletic taping, which is used to support muscles and joints, lymphatic taping is applied with very light tension and follows specific lymphatic pathways. This allows the skin to lift slightly, creating space beneath the surface that may help improve lymphatic flow and reduce feelings of heaviness, tightness, or swelling.

Because the tape is breathable and water resistant, it can remain in place for several days, helping provide ongoing support between treatments and throughout daily activities.

What Can Lymphatic K Taping Help With?

Injury related swelling
May support lymphatic fluid movement and help manage localized swelling following an injury.

Lymphedema related swelling
Can be a tool and is often used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan and may be combined with Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT), compression therapy, exercise, and other therapeutic approaches.

Lipedema
May provide gentle sensory input and support comfort when swelling, heaviness, or tissue sensitivity is present.

Post surgical swelling
May be incorporated during recovery to help manage localized swelling once the skin and incision are appropriate for taping.

Radiation related swelling
May be used as a supportive technique when lymphatic function has been affected by cancer treatment.

Orthopaedic swelling & edema
Can complement movement, exercise, compression, and other rehabilitation strategies to help manage swelling after orthopaedic injuries or procedures.

Bruising
May help support the healing process by gently lifting the skin, promoting fluid movement, and supporting the clearance of blood breakdown products and cellular waste associated with bruising.

Mild fluid retention
May be used to provide sensory input and support superficial fluid movement when appropriate.

Scar related restrictions
Specialized taping techniques may be used around healed scars to provide sensory input and support tissue mobility.

Heaviness, tightness & discomfort
By helping manage swelling and providing sensory input, taping may help some individuals feel less tight, heavy, or uncomfortable.

  • IMPORTANT:
Its use should be individualized based on the cause of swelling, tissue condition, medical history, and overall treatment plan.

Considerations

Lymphatic K Taping is generally considered safe and well tolerated when applied appropriately. However, some individuals may experience skin irritation, redness, itching, or sensitivity to the adhesive.

Lymphatic taping may not be appropriate for everyone. Similar to Manual Lymphatic Drainage, certain medical conditions, including active infection, untreated blood clots, congestive heart failure, open wounds, or significant skin sensitivities, may require modifications or may need to be postponed. A thorough assessment will be completed prior to application to determine whether lymphatic K Taping is safe and appropriate for your individual needs.
