Hi, I’m Kate-Lynn McKenzie

I’m the human behind Flowing Roots Wellness!

  • Massage therapist for almost 10 years

  • Lymphedema and lymphatic drainage enthusiast

  • Oncology and Trauma Informed

  • Lifelong learner with an endless curiosity about how the body works

When I'm not helping clients feel more comfortable in their bodies, you'll usually find me researching lymphatics, tackling home renovations, getting lost in a good book, or convincing myself I definitely need another plant.

I built Flowing Roots Wellness around the idea that therapeutic care can be grounded in an evidence informed approach, have the ability to adjust to individualised needs and be deeply supportive, all at the same time. My massage approach is simple: listen first, treat the whole person, and make sure you leave knowing more about your body than when you arrived.

Whether you're recovering from surgery, managing swelling, navigating cancer treatment or recovery, carrying stress, or simply needing a quiet place to exhale for an hour, my goal is to create a space where you feel genuinely cared for, supported, and empowered.

Fun fact: I'm on a mission to make swelling, stress, and the lymphatic system a little less mysterious.

Thanks for being here and supporting this little dream of mine!

My Approach

Client Centered Focus and Care

  • Whole person care. You are more than symptoms and diagnoses

  • Thoughtful, individualised treatment

  • Guided by both evidence and experience

  • Comfort, communication and informed consent at every step

  • Support for both your body and nervous system

  • Trauma Informed care that meets you where you are

At Flowing Roots Wellness, care is grounded in thoughtful, individualised treatment that works with the body rather than against it. Sessions are adapted to your needs, comfort level, goals, and nervous system capacity on the day of treatment.

Education & Empowerment

  • Education that helps you understand your body, not just your symptoms

  • Building knowledge that empowers long-term wellness

  • Collaborative care and informed choices

  • Practical tools for life beyond the treatment room

  • Homecare recommendations and movement support

Blended Treatment Strategy

  • Therapeutic massage for pain, tension, and mobility support

  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) for swelling, recovery, and lymphatic support

  • Oncology-informed modifications for safe, supportive care

  • Myofascial release and myofascial cupping

  • Active release and pin-and-stretch techniques

Evidence Informed Approach

  • Guided by research but shaped by hands on and client experience

  • Lifelong learning and professional growth

  • Individualised care informed by current evidence

  • Balancing science, experience, and client goals

  • Moving beyond trends and towards meaningful, effective care

Every session is designed to be responsive, grounded, and personalized — because no two bodies, experiences, or healing journeys are exactly the same.

Where Care Takes Root

    • Thoughtful Care

      • Every treatment is approached with intention, curiosity, and attention to detail. Your experience should never feel rushed pressured or standardised.

    • Collaboration

      • I always say You know your body best. Treatment works best when care is collaborative, adaptive, and guided by communication and consent.

    • Education & Empowerment

      • I believe empowerment comes from people understanding their bodies. Education, homecare, and practical support are integrated into care whenever helpful.

    • Nervous System Safety

      • Therapeutic care does not need to feel aggressive to be effective. Treatments are designed to support regulation, comfort, and sustainable change.

    • Inclusivity & Accessibility

      • Care should feel welcoming, respectful, and supportive for all bodies, identities, and lived experiences.

  • My path into this work began with wanting to help people and a fascination for the body in the ways it adapts, compensates, protects, and communicates. What started as an interest in massage therapy grew into a deeper passion for understanding the nervous system, lymphatic health, recovery, chronic tension patterns, and the ways stress and life experiences can shape how we show up and feel in our bodies.

Over time, my practice naturally evolved toward more complex and supportive care, including Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), oncology-informed treatment, recovery-focused care, and nervous system-aware approaches that prioritise both effectiveness and comfort.

I created Flowing Roots Wellness to be the kind of space I believe more people are looking for: calm, compassionate, educational, adaptable, and rooted in genuine care rather than one-size-fits-all treatment.

  • I believe the body responds differently when it feels safe, supported, and listened to.

My approach is grounded in the understanding that healing and recovery are rarely linear. Some days the body needs focused therapeutic work. Other days it needs gentleness, regulation, rest, or simply space to soften out of survival mode.

Rather than applying the same treatment to every person, sessions are adapted based on your goals, symptoms, comfort level, medical history, nervous system capacity, and how your body is responding that day.

    Care may integrate:

    • Therapeutic massage

    • Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

    • Oncology-informed modifications

    • Myofascial techniques

    • Nervous system-focused care

    • Movement and homecare support

    • Education and collaborative treatment planning

The goal is not just temporary relief, but creating meaningful support that works with your body and life instead of against it.

  • Flowing Roots Wellness was designed to feel calming, grounded, and supportive from the moment you arrive.

The space incorporates soft earth tones, plants, gentle lighting, and a quiet atmosphere intended to help the nervous system settle. Treatments are provided within a professional shared clinic environment in Edmonton, with a focus on comfort, privacy, and accessibility.

This is a space where you are welcome to:

    • Ask questions

    • Need modifications

    • Take breaks

    • Request quieter sessions

    • Communicate boundaries

    • Show up exactly as you are

Hot towels, thoughtful pacing, and client focused care are all part of the experience.

  • This practice supports individuals seeking:

    • Therapeutic massage for pain and tension

    • Stress reduction and nervous system support

    • Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

    • Lymphedema and lipedema support

    • Pre- and post-surgical recovery

    • Oncology-informed massage

    • Chronic tension and overwhelm support

    • Recovery-focused care

    • General wellness and maintenance

Whether you are navigating complex health concerns or simply looking for a more thoughtful approach to care, treatments are adapted to meet you where you are.

  • Because care should feel personalised, not procedural.

At Flowing Roots Wellness, sessions are intentionally designed to blend clinical understanding with compassion, adaptability, and nervous system aware care.

Clients often choose to work with me because they are looking for:

    • A practitioner who listens

    • Treatments that are adapted to their actual needs

    • Support for complex or chronic concerns

    • Gentle but effective care

    • A calmer, more grounded treatment environment

    • Education, guidance and collaborative support

    • A space where they feel genuinely comfortable, heard and seen.

    • Evidence informed

This work is rooted in curiosity, continued learning, and a deep respect for the complexity of the human body and experience.

  • At Flowing Roots wellness, all bodies are beautiful and welcomed!

My practice is committed to creating a respectful, inclusive, LGBTQIA2S+ affirming environment where clients are treated with dignity, compassion, and care regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, body size, race, neurodiversity, disability, health status, socioeconomic status or life experience.

Care is trauma-aware, consent-based, and adaptable to individual comfort and accessibility needs whenever possible.

You do not need to perform wellness perfectly to deserve care here.
